special edition   MLB 2020 postseason

through the World Series

TBAR/PAs (total bases advanced or relinquished per plate appearance)

Following this year’s two seven-game league championship series, the fourth and final round of the postseason has continued with the best-of-seven-game World Series being played.   The 2020 pennant winners in each of the big leagues played in the 116th World Series.   For the second time in the team’s history, the Tampa Bay Rays championed the American League.   And for the third time in the last four years, the Los Angeles Dodgers would champion the National league.   26 players—12 Dodgers and 14 Rays—had at least one plate appearance (or virtual plate appearance, in the case of pinch runners who, in addition to the actual batters, were also attributed with TBAR: total bases advanced or relinquished).

There are 18 among them—eight Dodgers and 10 Rays—who made more than 39 appearances in these four series, along with an additional 15—eight AL players and seven NL players—whose teams did not win their league pennant but who each had 40 or more PAs in the wild card, division, and league championship series alone.   We here look at the TBAR/PA (total bases advanced or relinquished per plate appearance) of each of these players with at least 40 PAs in the series.
