First Covid Karen—Then Curfew Karen
wanting so much to just not have to be bothered

As it turns out, the term Karen had for years been a pejorative to describe someone with certain annoying, self-centered behaviors—particularly one who would act them out in public.

Then along came the pestilence, and the insulting meme was appropriated to refer to Covid Karen [*5]—being applied to call out those who are determined not to be inconvenienced by activities designed to keep others healthy and safe in public.

Yes, being a meme, you can google or duckduckgo it to see more mockery of Covid Karen than you’ll ever want to—or can learn some of the history of its development (e.g., how ‘Karen’ became a coronavirus villain [*4].   We pass on some samples we’ve been proffered of how you know you are a Covid Karen:

You come out of a church gathering and claim that “Jesus’s blood” will protect you from covid, saying that you go to Walmart or the supermarket everyday [*3].

You are willing to get arrested so that your kids can use a closed playground [*2].

You don't wear a mask into a store, but when asked to where a mask, take off your panties and put your them over your head as a mask [*1].

Next have come the protests against the murderous behavior inherent in the current policing system rampant in this society—and the desecration of the solemnity of these sacred demonstrations by the vandals and looters.   So then we get the curfews that have been imposed in order to stem destruction and thievery—or in some cases to inhibit the sacred protests and memorials themselves.   And in their wake, we discover the emergence of Curfew Karen.

Clearly not interested in adding to the voice of the righteous rage that has filled the hearts of all patriotic Americans, we hear the complaints about the petty inconveniences that are caused.   But true to form, Curfew Karen has been determined not to be gotten the better of.

As an example: our correspondent reports that in the parks and streets of some affluent neighborhoods that were parts of the areas under curfew, many of the upstanding residents there have been seen to be out strolling and gathering (not necessarily following recommended behavior to ward off spreading the plague either).   Our correspondents also take note that the beaches in the curfew areas have been, late into the restricted hours, as crowded as ever.

All these upstanding citizens appear to be certain that the curfew has never applied to them; and they of course appear to be right.   ( more to come on this )
