The Jackal, the Hyena, and the Maggot
a fable from
the editor
There’s a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other.
The devil says:
There’s no God, and it’s delusional to think there is, and so thinking there’s a difference between right and wrong or good and bad is delusional, and so thinking you can change things to be good and right in this universe where there’s no such thing as that would be crazy and stupid, so you must not try to take any such action.
The angel says:
There’s a God, and God will make things good and right, and only God can do anything to make things good and right, and so thinking you can change things to be good and right in this universe where only God can do that would be evil and blasphemous and heretical, so you must not try to take any such action.
Then there’s a calm, quiet, small voice that says:
Your own problems are so huge, as for other concerns, simply do nothing and relax and don’t think about those.
So how do we decide which to follow: to take no action, or rather, to take no action, or instead, to just do nothing; whether to follow the advice of the jackals, or rather, of the hyenas, or instead, of the maggots?
